The Dorcas Cancer Foundation TDCF is Nigeria’s leading pediatric cancer non-profit organization. Oncologist-led, the Foundation was established in 2015 in memory of 12-year-old Dorcas Adepitan, who passed away from osteosarcoma. Over the past decade, TDCF has built a high-impact, multi-level intervention platform addressing critical gaps in pediatric, adolescent, and young adult cancer care across Nigeria. The Foundation has directly supported hundreds of patients through diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship, with a growing cohort of long-term survivors successfully reintegrated into education and daily life. Beyond direct service delivery, TDCF operates across workforce development, systems strengthening, patient navigation, knowledge generation, policy advocacy, research, and health data systems, including the establishment of a pediatric cancer registry. Through its early detection initiative, the Early Detection and Initiation of Cancer Treatment (EDICT/Look Again) Training Program, TDCF has trained over 3,000 frontline healthcare workers, strengthened referral pathways, and reduced diagnostic delays at the population level. Its flagship global education platform, the Pediatric Radiation Oncology (PedROC), has trained over 2,500 oncology professionals across more than 60 countries and continues to serve as a scalable model for professional development in resource-limited settings. TDCF’s Treatment Access and Pathway Support (TAPS) program represents Nigeria’s first structured pediatric oncology patient navigation model, embedded within multidisciplinary care systems at institutions such as the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. In 2024, TDCF became the first Nigerian non-profit organization admitted into the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Global Alliance, joining a global network of more than 400 institutions across 80 countries working to improve outcomes for children with cancer.
