Rural Women Energy Security (RUWES) promotes renewable energy, clean cooking technologies, climate action, water security, waste management, and women’s entrepreneurship across Nigeria. We train rural women in assembling clean cookstoves, producing biogas and briquettes from agricultural and plastic waste, and molding earthenware water filtration and cooling systems for clean drinking water. Through our Waste to Wealth Initiative and Gender Social Enterprise Model, we provide women with clean energy products at subsidized rates. The women access loans from microfinance institutions at single-digit interest, with no collateral, payable over 2 years to purchase these products which they then sell for their livelihoods, creating entrepreneurs and sustainable businesses. We have distributed thousands of clean cookstoves, reduced indoor air pollution, cleaned communities, and built green businesses that improve women’s health, wealth, and environmental sustainability.
