Kitui Development Centre (KDC) is a women-led community-based organization dedicated to uplifting rural poor and vulnerable households in the semi-arid landscape of Kitui County. Grounded in its core focus areas—Food Security, Health and Nutrition, Climate Change Adaptation, and Child Protection—KDC empowers marginalized communities to become self-reliant. They utilize a unique Community Social Capital Development model to form grassroots institutions, establish community tree nurseries to reverse severe land degradation, and promote climate-smart agribusiness among subsistence farmers. What sets KDC apart is its comprehensive approach to resilience; alongside economic initiatives, they run a dedicated Rescue and Conference Center that offers safe shelter, psychosocial counseling, and essential vocational training for exploited youth and children.
