Ifumbo Youth Organization (IYO) is a registered community-based non-governmental organization working in the remote border communities of Senior Chief Mwaulambia in Chitipa District, northern Malawi. Since 2016, IYO has partnered with communities to create sustainable solutions that improve the lives of children, young people and women. Our work focuses on early childhood development, quality education, girls' empowerment, youth leadership, climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, health, safeguarding and community development. We work alongside local leaders, schools, caregivers, volunteers and government institutions to ensure that vulnerable and marginalized populations have opportunities to thrive. Through community-led initiatives, IYO has strengthened community-based childcare centres, trained caregivers, promoted child protection and safeguarding, supported youth skills development, and advanced climate-smart agriculture and environmental conservation. We also advocate for girls' education, gender equality and the meaningful participation of young people in local development. Our vision is a future where every child learns in a safe environment, every young person has the opportunity to realize their potential, and every community has the capacity to lead its own sustainable development. By placing communities at the centre of every intervention, IYO is helping build resilient, inclusive and empowered communities across one of Malawi's most underserved regions.
