GWASA Family (Gongo Warom Alumni Students Association – Community Based Organization) is a community-driven organization committed to improving the social, educational, and economic well-being of vulnerable families in Siaya County. The organization brings together members who believe in the power of collective responsibility, compassion, and sustainable community development. Our Work GWASA Family focuses on several key areas that directly improve the lives of disadvantaged households and vulnerable members of society: 1. Financial Literacy and Economic Empowerment We promote financial literacy among our members and communities, helping families develop sound savings habits, manage finances responsibly, and improve their economic stability. Through education and empowerment initiatives, we encourage self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods. 2. Affordable Loans and Member Support We provide access to affordable loans and financial support mechanisms that enable members to meet personal, educational, and business needs without falling into exploitative debt arrangements. This creates opportunities for economic growth and resilience within families. 3. Welfare Support for the Sick and Bereaved Compassion lies at the heart of our work. GWASA Family offers welfare and benevolence support to members and families facing illness, loss, or other emergencies. We stand with the sick, the bereaved, and those experiencing hardship, ensuring that no family walks through difficult moments alone. 4. Widow Empowerment and Housing Projects One of our flagship initiatives is the Widow Empowerment Programme, which identifies vulnerable widows living in poor conditions and mobilizes resources to construct decent houses for them and their children. These projects restore dignity, security, and hope to families that would otherwise struggle to access adequate shelter. Recent projects have benefited widows in Gem Sub-County, Siaya County. This year, we are yet to handover the widow's house done this year, hence limited information online. 5. Education Support and Bursaries Education is a powerful tool for transformation. Through our bursary programme, GWASA Family supports bright, disciplined, and needy students, enabling them to continue their education despite financial challenges. Particular attention is given to vulnerable learners from disadvantaged households. [gwasafamily.org](https://gwasafamily.org/blog/) Communities We Serve GWASA Family primarily serves communities within Siaya County, with special focus on vulnerable households, widows, orphans, students from low-income families, the sick, and bereaved families.
