Qwakanda NPC empowers rural communities in Qwa-Qwa to build sustainable livelihoods through climate-smart agriculture and the circular economy. We purchase organic waste from local households, creating an incentive for cleaner communities while converting the waste into nutrient-rich compost for community food gardens. These gardens improve food security, support school and clinic nutrition programmes, and create income opportunities. Our work has created over 100 temporary and permanent employment opportunities, empowered youth and women with practical agricultural skills, and abated more than 10 tonnes of carbon emissions by diverting organic waste from landfill. By transforming waste into food and livelihoods, we are restoring the environment while building resilient communities.
