Empowerment Community Based Organisation (ECBO) is a grassroots, community-led organisation based in Nambale, Busia County, Kenya. We work with young people, women, persons with disabilities, community health volunteers, and other vulnerable groups to improve access to quality healthcare, protect human rights, and promote sustainable community development. Our work focuses on tuberculosis (TB) prevention and care, HIV prevention and treatment, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response, mental health awareness, youth empowerment, and community education. Through partnerships with health facilities, local leaders, and community volunteers, we conduct outreach activities, health education sessions, referrals, community dialogues, household follow-ups, and advocacy campaigns that help people access life-saving information and services. We believe that every person deserves equal access to healthcare, accurate health information, and the opportunity to live with dignity regardless of age, gender, disability, or social status. Our programmes strengthen community participation by empowering local people to become advocates for better health, human rights, and social accountability. Despite operating with limited resources, ECBO continues to create meaningful change by reaching underserved communities with practical solutions that reduce stigma, encourage early health-seeking behaviour, support disease prevention, and strengthen community resilience.
